Chuckie Egg 2 (Choccy Egg) Launch Competition
Grand Chuckie Egg II National High Score Competition
In 1985, with the launch of
Chuckie Egg 2 (Choccy Egg), A'n'F ran a nationwide competition to find the highest-scoring
players of their new Spectrum 48K game. There were six regional heats, one each held in Scotland, Wales, Ireland, North
England, the Midlands and the South of England. Popular Spectrum magazine,
Crash
was appointed official scrutineers of the competition, and entrants were required to use the save routine in the program to
record their high score and send it off on cassette with the tear-off part of the inlay card by last post July 19th to enter
their appropriate regional playoff, which would be fought out between the top 20 scorers from each region in August.
Regional playoff participants were then sent a custom version of the game, which differed slightly from the released title, where
they had only a limited time to gain the highest score possible. The winners and runner up in each region went forward into
the Grand Final held in London in September 1985.
Full details of the competition were printed on the Chuckie Egg 2 (Choccy Egg) cassette inlay. If you took part in the
competition or can add any more information, perhaps even a picture of the prize eggs or a copy of the competition version
of CE2, get in touch!
Prizes
Six regional winners picked up £100 and a Silver Chuckie Egg II trophy, while the runners up gained £50 and a Silver
Egglet. The dozen regional finalists went on to the National Final in London, where the top prize was £500 and the Golden
Chuckie Egg II Trophy; with the runner up taking home the Golden Egglet and £250, while the person in third place walked
off £150 richer.
